Della Peterson, R.F.T. - Senior Engineering Technician

Della is a Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) and brings more than 35 years of forest industry experience to the Sitkum Team, with a particular passion for the operational phases of resource road engineering and harvesting. Della has been completing projects as a independent contractor since 2023.

Della has strong project management skills honed by the planning and construction of >1000 km of resource road throughout her career as an Engineering Specialist and Woodlands Supervisor.

She believes that the strength of the resource industry relies upon the quality of work performed on the ground and ensuring that the many professional elements that are a part of modern practice, are communicated effectively and can be performed successfully and cost-effectively.

Della’s skill sets include:

• Access planning and road layout on complex terrain

• Geometric road design analysis and recommendations

• Construction implementation specializing in high-cost excavation, utilizing high order survey and construction controls (Levels 3 and 4)

• Construction estimating and change management

• Contract writing/administration and field implementation

• Incident management including equipment coordination, costing and agency communication in emergency or urgent circumstances.

Della also has a strong skill set in the broader world of forestry.  She has significant experience in developing and working with Total Chance Planning and conducting cost revenue analysis to ensure that access corridors fully support a variety of harvesting systems, transportation safety and revenue expectations. She has worked with a variety of industry clients to conduct post harvesting impact assessments specifically for tether and other forms of mechanized harvesting.  Della enjoys the collaboration process involved in developing Best Management Practise guidance documents that have helped to optimize industry objectives for cost effective, safe and efficient operations.
